SPATIAL DESIGN

The Handmade Collective is an annual event hosted by A Hundred Hands, an NGO run by two sisters who are dedicated to hosting events to provide a space for Indian artisans to showcase and sell their art. In 2021, our team of 8 designers got the opportunity to take over the event by elevating the experience through spatial graphics and event planning, ensuring that every wall, stair, and surface reflected the event.

Use case: Volunteering   |   Dec 2021   |   Spatial design and Branding

While my role was not limited to this single artwork, it mainly focused on blending everything present into a unified masterpiece. My partner, Poornima, and I collaborated to bring this artwork to its final form and transform the stairway into a storytelling experience. Inspired by the diverse art forms represented at the event, we worked to ensure that each step was not just a transition but an artistic discovery.

In the weeks building up to the event, we spent late nights at the space trying to envision how to perfectly represent the event through this stairway by having all our discussions and iterations sitting on the staircase (as seen below), taking notes on things that people would notice as they pass by. This allowed us to come up with a style and palette that we thought would truly grab a passerby’s attention.
