Projects cloaked in secrecy

My role at McKinsey was less about “making things look nice” and more about helping people understand big ideas quickly and clearly. Starting off as a Presentation Designer, I spent my days converting endless pages of text of complex strategies into visual presentations that “wow’d” Consultants, Engagement Managers, and Associate Partners. Within my first year at the firm, I had a very strong user base and an incredible rapport with Partners who came to me for all types of design solutions. This helped me quickly grow into the CDE (Custom Design for Events) team, where we built highly visual, theme based presentations for events and workshops. Not generic themes - everything ranging from movies and shows like Top Gun or The Office to sports like Baseball and American Football.​

I moved on to work with the Print and Digital team, supporting on various high impact reports and publications. Collaborating across geographies with Senior designers and Creative Leads became a very important skill to develop while working in this team.
Between all of this, I started developing interest in Interface design and started exploring Figma as a tool for UI design. I picked up courses and developed my interest in this field. To my luck, there came an opening in the UI design team just before I completed my 2 years at firm. Among the 12 colleagues that applied for the internal role change, my hard work paid off and I got selected as the first UI designer in the Bangalore office.
